The John-Suwan Viewpoint is a scenic overlook located on the southern tip of Koh Tao, Thailand.
Visual Characteristics
The viewpoint is situated on a rocky outcrop. The terrain consists of granite boulders and sparse, hardy vegetation adapted to coastal conditions. The surrounding waters exhibit shades of turquoise and deep blue, depending on depth and sunlight penetration. The coastline features small coves and sandy patches.
Location & Access Logistics
The viewpoint is approximately 3 kilometers south of Sairee Beach. Access is via a dirt track that branches off the main road near Tanote Bay. The final approach involves a short, steep hike over uneven terrain. Parking is available at the base of the trail, with capacity for approximately 10-15 motorbikes. No public transport directly serves the viewpoint; taxis or rented motorbikes are the primary means of arrival.
Historical & Ecological Origin
The geological formation is primarily composed of weathered granite, characteristic of the Koh Tao archipelago, which formed from ancient tectonic activity. The vegetation is a result of natural colonization by salt-tolerant plant species.
